Eskimo Diary - 2001

26th September - Chocolate Tasting & Jelly Racing

We started the evening around a table tasting bits of chocolate, using the immense power of a Tesco carrier bag to conceal the chocolate before we ate it. I got most of them wrong - damn my tastebuds! Then we did some treacle racing - we had to get treacle from a jar at one end of the room to the other by using a spoon held in our teeth - and we couldn't move. Sticky, but fun. Then we used a similar principle for moving a plate of smarties from one side to the other - though you could move this time. And there was no cheating whatsoever.... yeah right.

3rd October - Blind Drop

The idea behind this evening was that we got in the minibus blindfolded, were dropped off in the middle of nowhere (with a couple of cryptic clues to our location) and were told to get to a pub in Naburn. It turned out we were just outside Riccall, so we just walked up the Selby cycle track. Half-way along we bumped into Jude, Karen and Martin, who invested James, Luke and Ben on top of a fence (I told you we have unusual investing cerimonies). We then carried on walking and arrived in Naburn somewhat later than we were supposed to, so we couldn't go to the pub. Darn it.

10th October - Sex Education Talk

Or at least, that is what the night was supposed to be, but Rosie "couldn't get the sex woman to come", so it wasn't.

17th October - Homemade Pizza Evening

The title of the evening is pretty self-explanatory - we had an evening making homemade pizzas. We made dough, and then had a choice of fillings - my group (myself, Dave C, Dave T and Dr Evil) made the 'spicy' pizza. Unfortunately we put rather too much chilli seed in it and so when it was cooked it was red hot. The other pizzas were good though.

24th October - Brewery Trip

Phil oganised a tour around York Brewery, an idea approved by Martin since he works across the road from it. We arrived at 7pm, and then had a drink in the bar - since most of us weren't 18 we had to put up with rather weak shandy. The tour was good - not very long but then again it isn't a very big brewery. We then went to the chippy afterwards, and then descended on the Beefeater for a few more drinks.

30th October - Cubs Hallowe'en Party

31st October - Not the Cubs Hallowe'en Party

Since the cubs were supposed to be having their party tonight, we had a free evening. So we built the bonfire for Monday's fireworks, and chatted. And that was about it...

5th November - Fireworks Party

To celebrate bonfire night, the whole group had a bonfire night party - everyone brought along a few fireworks (only big ones allowed) and there were hotdogs and toffee apples on sale too. The firewroks, set up by Martin, Phil and Dave B, were great, although one fell over and crashed into someone's garage, and one of the catherine wheels actually spun off the tree and landed on the floor very close to the crowd... And someone put a firework in the bonfire... not a good idea... The bonfire was good, although the first attempt to start it failed miserably (it actually went out completely), so I think Pete helped it with a can of petrol (don't try this at home...), and after that it burned well the whole evening.

7th November - Fireworks at Snowball

We went to Snowball in the minibus, and then started with a wide game where we split into groups and had to find Phil and Dave B, who hid somewhere in the forest. Then we had a small fireworks display and err... that was it. We were going to have a bonfire and toast some marshmallows but the ground was too wet.

14th November - Swimming at Archbishop Holgate's

We met at HQ at 8pm - Laura C had made a miraculous recovery and came down to join in, though we all secretly signed a get-well-soon card for her anyway. We set off in the minibus but called off at Karen's house to pick up some 'noodles' to mess around with at the pool. After a few minutes of wacking each other with the noodles in the pool we started a game of water polo - girls v boys, though Martin and Marcus joined the girls since there were uneven numbers (or at least that's what they want you to think...). A few minutes in to the game the caretaker came in - he didn't know we were still in and had come to lock up, so Rosie had to explain we were actually there until 9:30pm. The game ended 5-5 or something. We then played another game across the pool instead of lengthways since one goal was at the deep end and one was at the shallow end. We then got changed, and erm... went home.
